Pediatric Broken Bones

Your little one hit a rock on their bike and flipped over the handlebars. You're looking at an arm that has enough bruising to make you think a broken bone is possible. Rather than heading to the emergency room, make your next step a drive to Tulsa Pediatric Urgent Care, serving Tulsa, OK, and the nearby region, to see Dr. Katie Dalton, Dr. Erin Grimes, or another member of the team.

Signs of a Broken Bone

Pain is one of the more common symptoms, and it tends to occur immediately after the injury. However, sometimes, the pain is delayed.
Other signs your kid may have a broken bone include swelling, tenderness, and/or bruising or discoloration at the site. Your little one could develop a bump at the location. Another sign is your child may not be able to move a limb as much as usual or at all.

Why Choose Urgent Care

Now that you know when treatment for a broken bone may be necessary, let's discuss why choosing urgent care is oftentimes the superior choice for getting your child the help they need.

We're conveniently located on 91st St., but we get that the location isn't close to everybody in Tulsa, OK, and the neighboring communities. We offer convenience in another way, though. Wait times here are significantly less than that in the ER. In fact, statistics indicate the average wait time in the ER is around 35 minutes, but anybody who's ever visited knows that isn't always the case. That said, when you visit an urgent care like ours, we see patients in a fraction of the time.

Plus, you'll appreciate it when the bill comes because it's much cheaper compared to the hospital. We also strive to provide our patients with personalized care to make the experience effective and positive for a patient, no matter their age.

What to Expect During Treatment

We understand your little one is in pain and upset. A team member will work to keep your little one comfortable during the process.
To diagnose if it is, in fact, a break as well as the severity of it, your little one will need to undergo an X-ray, giving our practitioner a view of the bone.

If your little one has a fracture, the treatment approach may include any of the following:

  • Casting
  • Splinting
  • Bone manipulation (closed reduction)
  • Surgery
  • At-home measures to manage symptoms

Tulsa Pediatric Urgent Care, serving Tulsa, OK, and the surrounding area, can diagnose and treat fractures. So, if you suspect one, Dr. Dalton, Dr. Grimes, or another associate recommends you bring your child for a visit, even if it's only a possibility.
